Jun 30, 2023 at 10:15am Update: 20 minutes ago

Youri Baas will play in the NEC shirt next Eredivisie season. The defender comes over from Ajax on a rental basis, where he has regularly made minutes in the main force this calendar year.

Baas made his debut with Ajax last season and mainly got the necessary playing minutes under trainer John Heitinga. The twenty-year-old defender has played a total of ten matches for Ajax’s first team, three of which were in the Champions League.

NEC has not stipulated an option to buy in the lease with Ajax, where Baas still has a contract until the summer of 2026. The left back has been playing in the youth of the team from Amsterdam since 2018. Before that he played in the youth at Excelsior.

“After a long period with Ajax’s U21 team and being allowed to play matches at the highest Dutch level, I am ready for a period in which I can learn a lot at a stable Eredivisie club”, Baas responds to the club site there is NEC.

At NEC, Baas is the intended successor to Souffian El Karouani, who was a permanent fixture last season and deserved a transfer to FC Utrecht. In Nijmegen, Baas meets an old acquaintance with Sontje Hansen. Hansen permanently exchanged Ajax for NEC earlier this year.

With the temporary departure of Baas, Ajax seems to continue looking for solutions for players who fall between the main force and the reserves team. Earlier, Youri Regeer was sold to FC Twente, which is reportedly also going to attract Naci Ünüvar on a rental basis soon.
