Only 719 crowns for one kilogram of raspberries. We came across such a size in Delmart stores, where this popular blueberry fruit is offered in 125-gram bowls. One comes out to 89.90. The company did not respond to our questions about the pricing policy before the text was published.

So we turned to several farmers.

In Břežany, near Český Brod, there is the only farm that organizes self-picking of raspberries and blackberries in the Czech Republic. The collection itself is much slower thanks to the smaller fruit, but even so it has been popular among people here.

“I can’t tell you for sure, but dozens of people come to us,” said one of the workers there. By the way, self-collection was still held on Saturday and Sunday, October 5 and 6. The price per kilogram for this year is set at 160 crowns, and the entrance fee for an adult visitor is 30 crowns . “The whole season? She is different. Sometimes it ends in September, sometimes in October, it’s about the weather,” said representative Berry Servis.

We don’t want to say anything

When we asked her about the possible reasons why Delmart sells a kilogram of raspberries for 719 crowns, she did not want to comment.

She was not alone. We also marched in Úvaly, Hradec Králové and Pilsen. “We focus on apples. And it’s clear that no one wants to say anything, because they can provide supplies in the future, so they don’t want hot blood,” a farmer from Neratovice told PrahaIN.cz.

We also called in Brno. Here, too, the conversation went on similarly. Until we also asked about the reason for the high price of raspberries in Delmart. There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone before he shouted loudly, “You’re not serious!

However, the topic of raspberries is not isolated. As the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed to us, for example, in 2022, the amount of forest crops collected was a record and reached a value of 7.89 billion crowns. The popular forest fruits are still blueberries, of which 6.7 thousand tons were collected for 1.21 billion kroner and raspberries in the amount of 2.6 thousand tons for 562 million kroner.

Self-assembly is the method

The Agrarian Chamber of the Czech Republic is also seeing high prices. So it has decided to support self-assembly several times. “Fruit growers will see help in self-harvesting, which could increase local sales. According to their chamber, two things are pressed by orchards: high energy prices for fruit storage (apples, for example, must be refrigerated) and low prices, often below cost in retail chains . The campaign was successful in many ways.

However, the average prices of some fruits and vegetables are still high. This can be seen with CZSO records, which have been mapping dozens of products since 2010. Here we see that oranges currently cost an average of 43.30, cabbage 33.50 and table apples 36.90. Blueberries are not recorded with statistics. Looking at the market, however, we find that the amount of about 450-500 crowns per kilogram is not unusual.
