South Korea announces finding of 3 COVID-19 cases your variant or B1621. This variant was first identified in Colombia and is now spreading in 40 countries.
The World Health Organization WHO in August 2021 included your variant into the category of variant of interest (VoI). The Mu variant is now in one group, including the Lambda variant.
Quoted from the Koreaherald, the three cases found in South Korea were immigrants from Mexico, the United States, and Colombia, who arrived in May, June and July. So far, no cases of local transmission have been found.
Not many studies have been conducted on the latest variants in the VoI group. South Korea is closely monitoring its distribution and death rate.
The Mu variant is said to have a constellation of mutations that are believed to make it escape antibodies made by the immune system. However, to be sure, further observations are needed.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 vaccination, Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, confirmed that there had been no findings your variant in Indonesia.
