People under 30 on the islands earn an average of 1,050 euros. In most cases, a rental apartment for yourself costs almost 1,600 euros at current prices. This means that young people would have to pay 123 percent of their salary for accommodation.
The Spanish central bank recommends not putting more than 35 percent of your salary into rent or mortgage. However, this is unrealistic for young people in most Spanish regions.
