Your opinion: Sony can not be left behind and should provide the PS5 with a “Smart Delivery” system

Microsoft announced some of the Xbox Series X features earlier this year and one of them is the so-called “Smart Delivery” system. In short, that means that you only have to purchase cross-gen games once and then you can use them on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Of course that makes a big difference in your wallet.

On the one hand, this ensures that gamers can buy and play their Xbox One games on release, without having to wait longer. On the other hand, this allows the Xbox Series X to continue where they were, but with all the bells and whistles included, realized by the stronger platform. A good system that Microsoft will undoubtedly use frequently in marketing communications, it is after all a big plus.

What Sony will do with the PlayStation 5 is still unclear and it is therefore not certain whether the PlayStation 5 has a similar system. Seen EA earlier this week suggested that the system will apply to both next-gen consoles is a nice subject for your opinion this Sunday. Another reason is that CD Projekt RED will be the system support with Cyberpunk 2077.

When notified, the developer stated explicitly that they believe that gamers should never buy the same game twice if they want to play it on a platform in the same family. This implies that they wish that you can also play the PS4 version of Cyberpunk 2077 on the PlayStation 5, as they have now confirmed for the Xbox versions of the game. The question is whether Sony allows that, the developer did not provide a definite answer at the time.

It is clear that developers and gamers in the Xbox camp can appreciate and embrace this initiative. Praises can be heard on the web and it is now – as in many cases – Sony to make a move. In the context of this particular topic, it seems to be increasingly clear that Sony should also offer something like this.

Not only is that friendly towards your users, it is also something that could be decisive for consumers in the first phase after the release. If you want to buy a game like Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla for a current-gen platform and you can play it for free on the Xbox Series X, but not on the PlayStation 5… then it is for gamers who own both current-gen platforms of course a no-brainer to go for Microsoft’s console.

Since gamers are sensitive to “free” games and content, it is of course a great marketing tool to promote the Xbox Series X. Regardless of whether people will take advantage of it, Microsoft would have an edge on Sony if the PlayStation 5 doesn’t have that feature. In addition, Microsoft seems to be a trendsetter at the moment and you do not want to be left behind anyway.

On the other hand, this also comes with many nuances. For example, it may be that you do not have too much trouble waiting and then do not buy that one game for the PlayStation 4, but later for the PlayStation 5. The Smart Delivery system is also interesting now, in a year and a half it will be significantly less important . Then most of the gamers have already switched and there are fewer games for the current-gen platforms.

In this sense, this feature has a limited expiration date when it comes to utility and Sony can of course consider that they do not consider it necessary. And so there are again different arguments for and against that we present to you here. As always in your opinion, it is up to you to discuss it further. You can do this below, but here is the question to keep it neat.
