Your opinion | Some developers deserve a second chance

The launch of Cyberpunk 2077 was worthless to say the least. The PS4 and Xbox One versions were practically unplayable and the game did not come out unscathed for us either. The PC version, on the other hand, is a version that you can still enjoy and we now have to wait for the upgrades for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. But this will all take a while while, given the current circumstances in the world not exactly cooperating and the development is slowing down step by step.

We also saw a similar situation with Hello Games regarding No Man’s Sky. Many ambitious promises were made, but very little actually happened. The game you had on hand was mediocre and was mostly a disappointment, because many of these promises were not fulfilled and were present in the game. Now, quite a few years later, No Man’s Sky is a game that manages to offer a fair amount of content to the players… for free and nothing. The developers have followed through and are still working on the game to deliver on all the promises of yesteryear.

We also see the same thing happening at CD Projekt RED. While the game still has a long way to go, we’re gradually getting more patches and the game seems to be getting into a more acceptable state. In fact, Cyberpunk 2077 is doing better than ever on Steam, where the game is now receiving very positive feedback from the community. So it’s a (decent) matter of waiting for this game to become worth it or maybe even if it is for some of us.

This week’s statement is whether it’s not right to give developers a second chance. Developers, like consumers, are victims in some situations because they are under poor management. Another great example is of course Anthem, where the developers had their hands in their hair due to extremely bad management and as a result the game has completely failed.

This also turned out to be the case with Cyberpunk 2077 and we can only say that the developers are still doing everything they can to bring this project to a good conclusion. Upgrades and additions for The Witcher 3 are also still in the pipeline, so CD Projekt RED continues to please the community, which is commendable. Especially when you look at Anthem, which has just been let down despite nice promises from EA and BioWare that they would fix it.

What do you think about this? In some cases, do we have to be a little shy with some unfortunate game launches or should we be tough and leave a game for what it is? However, Hello Games has proven that giving a second chance can ultimately lead to a game that is better than ever.
