Your heart is at risk if you drink coffee like this!

A new study has revealed that the number of daily cups of coffee may increase the risk of fatal heart disease.

The researchers found that consuming more than 400 mg of coffee per day (equivalent to 4 cups) is associated with a slow increase in heart rate and blood pressure over time.

They believe that caffeine’s effect on increasing heart rate and blood pressure causes erosion, weakening, and damage to blood vessels, which can lead to heart attack, stroke, or heart failure.

The research team from Zydus Medical College in India came to these conclusions by studying 92 people with healthy hearts, where each person’s heart rate and blood pressure were determined, before and after cardio exercises. do for 3 minutes.

The researchers also recorded information about demographics and their caffeine consumption, including whether they preferred coffee, tea or soft drinks.

About 20 percent of participants consumed more than 400 mg of caffeine per day, and were more likely to have high blood pressure and heart rate “in general, and after completing a cardio session.”

“Due to its effects on the autonomic nervous system, regular caffeine consumption can put healthy people at risk for high blood pressure and other cardiovascular events,” said study author Dr. Nensei Kagatara.

The researchers caution that the results could be due to other differences between participants, such as their activity levels, age or other eating habits.

However, “Raising awareness of these risks is critical to improving heart health for everyone,” Kagathara said.

It should be noted that caffeine works by temporarily blocking receptors in your brain that regulate sleep, memory, attention, and learning, which increases the flow of oxygen to the brain, speeds up heart rate, improves concentration, and helps you feel more alert. You may feel some unpleasant effects when you consume a lot of coffee, such as headache, nausea, anxiety, tension, high body temperature, and facial redness.

In fact, if you drink more than 5,000 mg of coffee, caffeine can be fatal, according to the Center for Addiction and Mental Health.

The findings were presented at the American College of Cardiology Asia Congress 2024, and have not yet been published in a scientific journal.
