Your doctor has told you how much time you should spend on the bathroom to prevent hemorrhoids

A family doctor who spoke about the health and healthy lifestyle show “Sveikas rytojus”. Jūratė Valiukienė stressed that there are usually several reasons for the appearance of such a disease, it is written in a press release.

“The appearance of hemorrhoids itself is a very complex matter. There is no single reason why this disease occurs. Increased abdominal pressure, age characteristics, degenerative things that occur in the intestinal walls, changes in the venous tone can contribute to this. The onset of the disease can also be influenced by inflammation of the venous walls due to mechanical irritation factors, such as constipation. All this complex of reasons contributes to the swelling of the tissues of the anus. They increase and then the tissues fall off,” said family doctor J. Valiukienė about the causes of the disease.

Hemorrhoids can also develop as a result of poor diet, when eating extremely spicy and low-fiber foods, as a result of alcohol consumption or obesity. Naturally, those people who have a genetic predisposition – a hereditary weakness of the venous system – are most at risk.

Specialist will also point out that hemorrhoids are very often caused by the bad behavior of people in the toilet.

Intestinal disorders

“Sitting on the toilet for a long time is one of the main risk factors for hemorrhoids. When we defecate in the toilet, we should take a maximum of 3 minutes, because straining during defecation and sitting in that position for a long time mainly affects the tissues of the ‘anus. Having phones in the bathroom is bad these days. Then the time spent in the bathroom sometimes extends from 3 minutes to 30 minutes, because we simply forget where we are and why we are sitting,” said the doctor about the bad people’s habits.

According to the specialist, hemorrhoids can be identified in several ways.

“Very often, patients complain of a burning or itching sensation, pain in the anus area. You can also feel the lump that has appeared. However, what scares patients the most is bleeding,” said Dr. J Valiukienė on the symptoms of the disease.

In the program, the doctor presented several effective methods of treating hemorrhoids.

“Suppositories, ointments and pills can be used to treat hemorrhoids. At all stages of the disease, only venoactive drugs are recommended. This is a very great and quick help for patients. It can be combined with other methods of treatment – suppositories or ointments, as well as with surgical treatment, so that the patient recovers faster,” said the specialist.

According to the surgeon of the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Medical Center, Dr. Sergey TrusovAlthough we often avoid talking about hemorrhoids, this disease is quite common.

“According to statistics, hemorrhoids are a fairly common disease. In Western countries, it affects 4-7 percent of the population. Surgery for this disease is performed 1.3% more often in men than in women. Hemorrhoids are more common in people with high social status. Sitting work, comfortable soft chairs, abundant food consumption, low physical activity contribute to this,” says surgeon Dr. S. Trusov.

Most often, the disease occurs in people aged 45-65 years. According to the surgeon, palpable formations can also be detected as the hemorrhoids progress.

“Patients develop cavernous bodies. This is a more scientific term. More often we call those formations hemorrhoidal nodes. To make it easier to understand their appearance, let us recall the dilated leg veins and the formed nodes. Very similar formations are also formed in the canal of the year,” said Dr. S. Trusov.

Hemorrhoids can be internal or external. External hemorrhoids are visible, a person feels itching, pain, discomfort. Internal nodes are located within the rectum and rarely cause discomfort. The latter are usually manifested only by painless bleeding during defecation.

There are also 4 stages of progression of hemorrhoids. When you feel the first symptoms, you should not delay, because the sooner the disease is detected, the easier and more effective the treatment.

According to the doctor, one of the main methods of treatment is the use of preparations that increase the tone of the veins and protect blood vessels.

According to the abdominal surgery physician, surgeon, med. m. Dr. Andriaus Karpaviciuseven half of people in their 50s have one or another symptom of hemorrhoids.

“When a person started walking on two legs, his lifestyle changed and these problems also appeared. The main cause of hemorrhoids is improper blood flow from the pelvis. If a person walked on all fours, this disease would not would exist,” said Dr. A. Karpavičius.

The doctor also told about the method of treatment, which has been used for almost a century.

“If a minimally invasive method of treatment is not suitable, then we move on to surgical methods. Here again there is a number of options, operations. The oldest classical method of treatment is open hemarectomy. This type of surgery is been performed for 100 years and this type of surgery has proven itself,” said A. Karpavičius of surgery.

Although it is effective, it causes a lot of discomfort to patients, as the pain after the operation can last for a month or even six weeks.

As the surgeon said, Lithuania has already begun to show interest and apply other methods of surgery.

“Another popular surgical method is laser hemorrhoidoplasty. There have been large-scale Lithuanian studies and studies for the use of this method of treatment, during which this method was used. Quite good results were achieved during the whole process,” said the specialist of therapeutic innovations.
