It is important to eat protein-rich foods at breakfast.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Having an ideal and healthy weight is the dream of almost everyone. In order to achieve that, many people choose to run the method diet and regular exercise.
However, not a few of them still find it difficult to lose weight despite dieting and exercising regularly. Reported on the page Eat This Not That on Sunday (7/11), here are eight things that can derail your diet program:
1. Don’t eat protein at breakfast
Fitness trainer Anthony Coffey says 90 percent of his clients who fail to lose weight are those who skip protein at breakfast. Protein-rich foods are important to eat at breakfast because they can increase metabolic performance. “It also reduces cravings, distractions mood, stress, and daily levels of fatigue, all things that trigger weight gain,” he said.
2. Lack of gratitude
Mindset is very important for your goals. Bang Fitness director from Toronto, Geoff Gurvitz, explained that being grateful and appreciative for every progress in your diet can have a tremendous impact on your success.
3. Waiting hungry to eat
Health coach, Katelyn Barrons, said, the worst thing about a diet is waiting to be hungry to eat. People trying to lose weight often think that if they skip meals or can delay eating, it will help them consume fewer calories.
“Whereas this often backfires because like it or not, they will become so hungry that they overeat,” says Barrons.
4. Dinner with jumbo portions
If you often eat dinner with large portions, your diet program will likely not work. Health counselor at The Habit Ayurveda, Carli Banks, says it’s best to eat large portions at lunch. Meanwhile, for dinner, make it a habit to consume soup or salad.
5. Drink alcohol
Alcohol is one of the factors that can derail your diet program. One glass of wine contains between 120-125 calories, soda vodka can be more than 100 calories, and 16 ounces of margarita can contribute 1,000 calories to your body.
6. Inconsistent
One thing that often makes diet programs fail is inconsistent, whether in implementing a healthy diet or exercising.
7. Likes to drink soda
Nutritionist, Jinan Banna, explains that drinks like soda are high in sugar. High sugar consumption has been shown to potentially reduce microbial diversity in the gut after just one week. The loss of microbial diversity in the gut microbiota has been shown to be associated with most of the human diseases affecting westernized countries, including obesity.
8. Skipping meals or not eating regularly
This may sound counterintuitive, but diet failure can be triggered by skipping meals and not eating regularly. This will then notify your body that you may experience starvation in the near future and your metabolism will adapt. While eating regularly will tell the brain that there is food ready to be consumed so that the body does not need to store food as fat reserves for later.
