Leaving your house keys in the glove compartment of your car is a bad idea that can be very expensive. The problem is that these documents contain the victim’s address, which turns the glove compartment into a treasure trove for thieves. The risk is not limited to official documents. Even if you leave a simple receipt or car papers it will provide the information criminals need to find the home and plan the robbery. Besides, it won’t attract attention because they would go in with the house keys after stealing them from the glove compartment.

For this reason, the Civil Guard has advised not to leave the keys or anything that could leave the home address in the car, much less in the glove compartment. This advice is especially relevant during the holidays, when many people spend a long time away from home.

In these cases, the keys to the house or accommodation should be kept in a safer place than the glove compartment and always under surveillance. The best option is always to carry them with you. The idea is simple: if a thief gets access to your car, don’t let him find a direct route to your house.
