AIK defeated Varberg 3-0 and in the 81st minute the audience at Friends Arena got to see an all-Swedish debutant when 16-year-old Jonah Kusi-Asare jumped in. The striker didn’t have time to show much, but the times he had the ball, it still looked exciting.
With the move, he also became AIK’s youngest debutant of all time.
– It felt good to make my debut in the Allsvenskan. It was an indescribable feeling to be able to celebrate with the fans after the match, he tells Fotbollskanalen.
Did you have time to show off what you’re good at?
– Well, not so much. I probably got the ball two or three times, it was a header there in a set situation.
Kusi-Asare is happy to have been given the chance and says he has gained a taste and hopes for even more playing time.
– In the beginning it was a bit difficult for me to get into it, at a higher pace and so on. It took a week or so to get into it. I’ve been making big strides lately. It feels good. I think I’m doing well, it’s just a matter of continuing, he says and continues:
– I want to get into the team as much as possible and be in the squad all the time. I want to play as much as possible.
Coach Henning Berg and his teammates are impressed by the 16-year-old debutant.
– He is training with us now. He is a player who needs to train with the A team, he needs to develop. He is a great talent who got to feel it today. A very good experience for him, says Berg.
Anton Saletros:
– He is a great player. He is young. He must continue to develop and work hard. We shouldn’t put too much pressure on him. But it is clear that it is a very good player.
Alexander Milosevic:
– Big potential. Mature in his playing style. Good on the head for being so young, with timing and resilience. But it is important that he continues to work hard and take things seriously. Just because he’s made his debut now, it won’t come automatically. He has had a great week of training and that is why he got the chance.
