Youngest Athlete at Hangzhou Games Places Seventh in Women’s Skateboarding Final

Alegado, who is believed to be the youngest athlete at the Hangzhou Games, qualified for the women’s final and finished seventh out of eight participants.

Japan’s Hinano Kosaki, a 15-year veteran, won the gold medal.

Alegado, who turned nine years old last March and reportedly came from California, said she started practicing skateboarding when she saw her brother doing it while they were at one of her cousins’ house.

“And I was like, ‘Can I try? Can I try?’ And I got on the board and loved it,” she added.

Speaking about her feelings about participating in a major international competition, Alegado said: “I was very excited because I was about to skate in the Asian Games and I just did it, so it was a lot of fun!”

When asked if her brother was still skating, she replied: “No because he was like, ‘Oh my God, she’s better than me now,’ so he stopped.”
