Young Woman Jumps to Her Death from 12th Floor of Brawijaya University Building

MALANG, KOMPAS — A young woman was found dead on the balcony of the 4th floor of Building F, Faculty of Computer Science, Brawijaya University, Malang, East Java, Thursday (14/12/2023). He is suspected of deliberately jumping from the 12th floor of the building.

According to information gathered from the field, this incident was discovered when several students who were taking their final semester exams heard the sound of falling objects. After checking, it turned out that there was a woman who was already lifeless.

Several students said they did not know the victim. “That’s right, that was where he was (pointing to the location). When the incident occurred I had not yet left. “I heard the news from word of mouth,” said one student from the Faculty of Computer Science who did not want to be named.

Head of the Malang City Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Commissioner Danang Yudanto, revealed that from the results of the crime scene investigation carried out by the Inafis team and witness statements, it is suspected that the victim deliberately jumped from the 12th floor.

The viral writing photo is thought to belong to the victim who threw himself from the 12th floor of Building F, Faculty of Computer Science, Brawijaya University, Malang, East Java, Thursday (14/12/2023).

This is supported, among other things, by the discovery of several items belonging to the victim on the 12th floor. Apart from that, there were also cuts on the victim’s left wrist which were allegedly carried out several days ago. “Before the incident occurred, there was already an intention on the part of the victim to end his life,” he said.

According to Danang, the victim, whose identity is still being kept secret, was registered as a student at the Faculty of Mathematics and Science, Brawijaya University. However, the victim resigned because he felt he had an illness that was interfering with his life.

This was told by the victim’s parents to the police. “The victim’s parents stated that their child had withdrawn from Brawijaya University in 2019 due to depression so he no longer studied at Brawijaya,” said Danang.

Confirmed separately, the Head of Information and Public Relations Division at Brawijaya University, Zulfaidah Penata Gama, confirmed that this incident occurred. However, his party does not yet have much information regarding this incident.

They also have not received information regarding the victim’s identity, whether he is a student at Brawijaya University or not. So far, all the campus has received are photos of the incident.

Police are investigating the crime scene in a suspected family suicide in Borobugis Hamlet, Saptorenggo Village, Pakis District, Malang Regency, East Java, Tuesday (12/12/2023).

“It is true that someone was found (dead) downstairs, at the Faculty of Computer Science, but we cannot provide information regarding who or what the chronology is because it is currently being investigated by the police,” he said.

According to Zulfaidah, until now his party is still waiting for information from the police. His party is also investigating whether the person concerned is a local student. In the last two weeks, the academic environment in Brawijaya has been holding final semester exams.

The victim’s parents stated that their child had withdrawn from Brawijaya University in 2019 due to depression so he no longer studied at Brawijaya.

Meanwhile, still related to the suspected suicide, Thursday afternoon, the East Java Regional Police Forensic Laboratory team carried out a crime scene investigation at the house of the family who committed suicide in Saptorenggo Village, Pakis District, Malang Regency.

This activity was carried out to confirm and clarify the identification regarding the deaths of WE (44), who works as an elementary school teacher, and his wife, S (40), and their youngest child, ARE (12). The three died on Tuesday (12/12/2023). The police strongly suspect that economic factors, namely debt burden, were the cause of the incident.
