Young voters go for the big battles. The generation gap is growing.

In the fridge at home they have no meat products.

Young people are becoming increasingly ideological. That may have something to say in this year’s election campaign, experts believe.

Julie Sæther Korslund (25) opens the refrigerator in the small apartment in central Oslo. There is not a single meat product. The elegant sofa behind her has been found in a second-hand market. The other furniture is abandoned treasures found on the street, in backyards and on the websites Finn og Tise. Both she and her friend Mina Stensrud (26) consistently make such choices for the climate. They think there is a difference between them and the older generation. And that the difference is greater in rural areas than in urban areas.

The two represent a phenomenon that researchers have not seen for decades. It can have an impact on this autumn’s elections.
