The Vienna Chamber of Labor is currently looking for young Viennese to design the new youth center with them. In this unique participatory process, young people can play an active role in the development of the building from the very beginning.

“It is important for AK to involve young people more specifically and specifically in their concerns. Young voices in particular are often not taken seriously by politicians or are ignored. We are building the youth center as an empowering counterpoint. In the future, our young members should have space there to discuss their concerns about work, education and politics, but also have space for their interests and to meet friends. This will only work if we involve them in the design of the building from the very beginning, “says Ilkim Erdost, Head of Education at AK Vienna. The construction will take place between 2024 and 2029 as part of AK Vienna’s real estate strategy. The results of the participatory process flow into the previous architectural competition and thus form the basis for the projects presented.
Four workshops
Together with experts in urban planning, architecture, design and politics, young people develop their ideas and visions for the youth center. On 3 and 4 October 2022 four groups of about 100 people will work in workshops on various topics related to the future building. The perspectives and positions of young people play the main role.
“We will discuss together what the youth center should be like and what should happen there. For us the focus is on the wishes and concerns of young people, after all it will be their home, ”says Erdost.
The workshops will address issues such as how the youth center can become climate-friendly and sustainable? How can you make your home as inviting and open as possible? What events and offers should be hosted there?
Young people can join AK Vienna until 25 September and help plan the youth center. All children aged 15 to 27 are invited to register for one or more workshops. Registration takes place on the following page:
