De Jonge Socialisten (JS), the youth wing of the PvdA, is virtually bankrupt due to financial mismanagement, reports NRC. More than a ton of expenditure by two former treasurers is not justified, says the current JS board. The two treasurers may be prosecuted because it is not clear what more than a ton was spent on, the newspaper said.
PvdA chairman Esther-Mirjam Sent placed the youth organization under guardianship in November. Every publication that the JS wants to make must first be approved by the PvdA.
NRC writes that claims have not been paid. The youth club with approximately two thousand members received its third treasurer in six months in December.
50,000 euros negative
A company investigation agency that investigated the financial state of affairs at the request of the JS and the PvdA found several dubious payments made by the two treasurers. According to that agency, it seems very likely that they have appropriated money from the youth organization.
JS wants to get clarity about more than 100,000 euros and get that amount back from the two former treasurers. The treasurer from September 2020 to June 2022 is an amount of 67,000 euros. With the treasurer who succeeded him in July last year, it concerns a payment of more than 35,000 euros that he made on his very last day as treasurer.
The working method of the two former treasurers is still being investigated, but it is already clear that since the 2020 financial year, the equity of the association has gone from more than 200,000 euros positive to 50,000 euros negative. The Labor Party has taken over all debts.
Legal action
The board has asked the two treasurers to account and to clarify their expenditure. If they don’t, JS will take legal action. The exact timeframe is not known. Both former treasurers are no longer members of the JS.
