The three were out in the south of Norway in a nature reserve. Once on the popular Melshornberg, disaster struck. Both 18-year-old Benedicte and her 12-year-old sister Victoria Myrset were killed by lightning, according to Norwegian authorities. They are both from the capital Oslo and were hiking.
The mayor of Hareid Municipality where the deadly incident took place has expressed his deepest condolences. According to him, no one could have foreseen this because the weather locally “turned so very quickly.”
According to a Norwegian news channel, there were a total of more than 800 lightning bolts in the area on Sunday.
