NEW YORK (AP) — Trae Young had 45 points and eight assists in his first game at Madison Square Garden since last playoffs, and the Atlanta Hawks beat the New York Knicks 117-111 on Tuesday night.
Young continued the brilliance he showed in the middle of last year. He hit seven 3-pointers, including one that tied the score at 105 with 2:54 left.
He then supplied Bogdan Bogdanovic for a go-ahead 3-pointer. After another 3-pointer by De’Andre Hunter, Young dribbled past Taj Gibson and hit a jumper to cap an unanswered 11-point run.
This placed the score 113-105 with 1:04 minutes to play.
Bogdanovic added a season-high 32 points for the Hawks.
The Knicks fell six games behind Atlanta in the fight for the tenth place in the Eastern Conference, the last one that distributes a ticket for the playoff minitournament.
