Temperatures are currently rising to record highs. And according to the weather forecast, it will stay that way for a few more days. The Breisgau editorial team therefore asked various experts what effects heat and drought have on agriculture, forests and vineyards.
The forest
Philipp Weiner, deputy head of the forest district of the Upper Black Forest, is currently looking rather pessimistically at the weather forecast: if it stays hot and dry, the situation in the forests will worsen, not only with regard to the great risk of forest fires. It is a sign that “it is very, very dry in the forest”. The river levels in particular show “that there is a major deficit,” says Weiner: the snowmelt was quite early and not as strong as last year, and the water quickly disappeared again.
