Young people are vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine

Vaccinating young people with the Pfizer vaccine started yesterday. Early in the morning there were already people in line waiting for their turn. The young people were on site accompanied by their parents. Not only young people wanted to be vaccinated, but adults were also present on the KKF site.

Suriname Herald has spoken to a few young people who have chosen to have themselves pricked. It is important to them that they not only protect themselves, but also the elderly they live with. According to some parents, it was their children’s choice to be vaccinated. Certain parents were also vaccinated directly.

The United States of America has donated 140,400 Pfizer vaccines to Suriname. Ambassador Karen Lynn Williams is very pleased with the turnout yesterday at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKF) premises known as the Exhibition Grounds. She indicated that it is important that people do not become very ill from this virus. She also brought her mother to be vaccinated and nothing happened to her.

Minister Bronto Somohardjo of the Interior (Biza) also brought his two sons so that they could be vaccinated. As a parent, he tries to set a good example for the rest of society. Somohardjo also indicated that it is the intention of the government to protect the entire society against this virus. The vaccine is to prevent people from ending up in hospital.

Health Minister Amar Ramadhin said he is not satisfied with the number of people who have been vaccinated. In Suriname 21 percent of the population is fully vaccinated. This number is still far too small to proceed with normalization. The minister also indicated that stricter checks will be carried out, because the virus is spread massively by partying.

The minister therefore expresses the hope that people will be vaccinated as much as possible. The group that was allowed to be vaccinated yesterday was between twelve and seventeen years old. So far, 328,536 people have been vaccinated in Suriname.
