Young Muslims gather in Arnhem to stand up for the prophet

Muslim youths held a meeting in the center of Arnhem to stand up for the prophet Mohammed. About fifty participants stood five feet apart and listened to speeches in Dutch and Arabic. There was also singing.

The demonstration was organized in response to the publication of controversial cartoons of Mohammed in France. According to the young people, the prophet is portrayed in a negative way. “He is being ridiculed in several variations,” said one of them.

With the demonstration they wanted to testify that Mohammed stands for love and tolerance. “If they knew who Mohammed really is, they would never do such a thing.”

The police kept an eye on things from a distance, writes Gelderland broadcaster. The event was quiet. Passers-by looked for a moment or walked on.

French flag set on fire

Many countries in the Middle East have protested against France and in particular against President Macron, who criticized radical Muslims after the murder of French teacher Samuel Paty. The French flag and posters depicting the president were set on fire.

In Beirut, after Friday prayers, hundreds of people from the mosque came to the residence of the French ambassador with banners. Buses also came from the northern port city of Tripoli to the capital. The protesters threw stones and the riot police used tear gas.

According to correspondent Daisy Mohr, the reaction is particularly violent in countries with good ties with Turkey. The Turkish president argued with his French counterpart this week.

“For example, in Qatar, French products were already taken off the shelves last weekend. Conservative countries such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are relatively calm. The authorities there seem to want to show their moderate side as much as possible at the moment. ”says Mohr.

Entered the church

In Vienna, it has only now become known that some 50 young people of Turkish descent entered a church last night. They attacked the baptismal font and the confessional. Before their action in the church they were noisily present in the street: they shouted “Allahu akbar” and had fireworks with them. The police separated them, but then they went to church.
