DThe sounds of the string orchestra can be heard on Saturday, May 6th at 11 a.m. in the Volkshaus Himberg and on Sunday, May 7th at 11 a.m. in the Volksheim Fischamend.

The string orchestra “Mosaik” was founded in 2011 by Maria Patera (Südheide Music School) and Mariela Riedl-Friedrich (Himberg Music School). Bernadette Schlembach (Musikschule Donauland) came along during the first project. The music schools in Mannersdorf (currently Anne-Sophie Rennkampff and Gabriel Weinhandl) and Hof am Leithaberge (Katharina Legradić) also followed shortly thereafter. Pia Szedenik-Aleksić, who is working as a violinist in the teaching team for the second year this year, is coming with her five-year-old son Luka, who enthusiastically plays along on his semiquaver double bass.

The name of the orchestra “Mosaik” says it all, it is made up of a variety of musicians from different music schools and musical styles. All age groups are represented, from small children who play along with just a few notes to retirees who find time for their passion for music again. The pieces are selected accordingly: many arrangements are written directly for the orchestra and feature parts of all levels of difficulty. This year you can hear traditionals from South Africa, Ghana and Nigeria as well as songs by Miriam Makeba and Toto. One can also look forward to Abou Bousso and Karim Thiam: In the middle part of the concert they will present music from Senegal on their West African instruments Tama, Xalam and Doundoun.

The first concert will take place on May 6th at 11am in the Himberger Volkshaus, the second on May 7th at 11am in the Volksheim Fischamend.
