Another 240 young people will be taken to the mainland during Thursday.
Thousands of people spent the first night after the fires that reduced most of the camp to ashes on Wednesday, in the open air on the streets around the camp. Police used tear gas to stop juvenile migrants who wanted to go to the capital, Mytilene. Some migrants pelted the police with stones.
The Greek government is now diligently looking for replacement housing for the migrants from the destroyed camp. The asylum seekers are accommodated, among other things, on ships.
The largest refugee camp in Europe housed more than 12,000 people, far more than the 2,800 for which the camp was intended. During the night fires, thousands of migrants fled. As far as is known, no one was seriously injured.
