Young man missing after problems in the Aare in Muri near Bern

A young man has been missing in Muri near Bern since Saturday afternoon after running into problems while swimming in the Aare.

A young man has been missing in Muri near Bern since Saturday afternoon after he got into trouble swimming in the Aare and was lost from sight by the person accompanying him. Despite an intensive search, it has not yet been found.

According to current knowledge, the man had gone swimming in the Aare at the height of the Muribad with an accompanying person, as the canton police in Bern announced on Sunday. He got into trouble and the person accompanying him lost sight of him. Shortly before 4.45 p.m., the canton police received a message that the man was missing.

An extensive search was immediately initiated with numerous emergency and rescue forces, who searched intensively for the young man from land, from water and from the air. Nevertheless, it has not yet been found.

The Aare currently carries a lot of water, has a high flow rate and is cloudy. For this reason, the search was very difficult. It was interrupted in the evening hours, and on Sunday other sections of the water were searched.

In addition to numerous patrols and the maritime police of the cantonal police in Bern, several emergency services from the medical police with lifeboats and the professional fire brigade from Protection and Rescue Bern were also involved. A Rega helicopter was also called in.

The care team of the canton of Bern looked after those affected.
