The boy was found lifeless in a field on Wednesday evening and his life was not saved. The police won’t say what kind of injuries he had, but they say their main hypothesis is that he died after a tragic accident.
The boy was a secondary school student in Gjøvik many teachers went on strike.
– We are recalling all teachers from the strike so that pupils and staff receive a school offer from tomorrow, says the municipal director of education in Gjøvik, Anne Mari Kind.
He says there has been full understanding on the part of the striking teachers for this.
Interview several witnesses
The teenager was found lifeless in the camp around 10pm.
Police investigations were carried out on the spot to clarify the causes of the tragic death.
– Our main hypothesis is that it was a tragic accident, says police lawyer Ragnhild Vik to the Inlandet Police.
They won’t say yet what caused the boy’s death or the circumstances under which he was found.
– We will question people who had contact with him before he was found, says Vik.
Lower middle school student
The municipal crisis team visited the boy’s family last night.
– I want to express my deepest condolences to those affected and to those left behind in this difficult time, says the mayor of Gjøvik, Torvild Sveen (Sp).
As many students were affected by the teachers’ strike, the parents of the school attended by the boy were informed on Thursday morning.
On Friday morning, all students will be physically gathered at the school at the start of the school day.
– So they will want their teachers to be close to them throughout the school day and in the days to come, says City Director Anne Mari Kind.
He says that in such incidents the municipality does not need to ask for a waiver from the strike.
– Here it is important to take care of children and young people who are in an extremely difficult situation and who have lost a close classmate, he says.
No decision has been made on how long it will take to recall striking teachers.
Anne Mari Kind says it will last as long as it is needed.
The local church will be open from 2pm today for those who need it.
