A potential case of police abuse was reported from the province of Pinar del Río, where a family reported that a young man had lost his life after allegedly receiving a brutal beating by the authorities at the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) station in municipality of San Juan Martínez.
According to the influencer Niover Licea, the victim was identified as Luis Ángel Peraza Hernández, who was in custody for trying to set fire to his home after discovering infidelity.
The complaint states that the detainee complained of a lack of air in his cell, supposedly due to an attempted poisoning prior to his arrest.
Despite this, the young man did not receive help, quite the opposite, as the officers ended up attacking him. The influencer indicated that, since he was not heard, the young man ended up spitting at a police officer who passed near his cell, which unleashed the brutal “punishment.”
The guards allegedly beat Luis Ángel severely, even throwing him down some stairs. After that, the young man ended up lying on the floor without receiving medical attention.
The influencer added that the young man lost control of his bodily functions after losing consciousness, which is why he ended up getting dirty. Officers called the victim’s mother to clean him up before he was taken to a hospital. However, the young man was declared dead inside the polyclinic.
“They left him there, they didn’t give him the necessary help. Only the next day, when he had almost no vital signs, they decided to take him to the polyclinic,” added the communicator on his social networks.
According to the information, one of the attacking officers was identified as Lázaro, nicknamed “El Apretado.”
On social networks, the young man’s family has shared publications about it, pointing out that their son was murdered due to the physical aggression he received during his detention.
“I am the father of Luis Ángel Benítez Hernández. That is his real name, and everything this man is saying is true. I also have photos of his beating. Make this go viral, and let justice be done, he was my only son,” Juan Peraza, father of the deceased, said on Facebook.
