Young man accused of murdering a 14-year-old minor on a basketball court extradited to NYC – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – The 18-year-old arrested last week in California For the tragic 2019 shooting death of 14-year-old Aamir Griffin, he was extradited to New York City, where he faces second-degree murder charges.

Police said the young suspect appeared in court Saturday afternoon on murder charges after Los Angeles officials arrested him on Aug. 23. How long Brown was out of New York is still unknown.

Police officers found the victim with a gunshot wound on October 26, 2019, on the basketball court at Baisley Park Houses shortly after 8:00 p.m. Detectives had told our sister network News 4 that they did not believe that the minor was the target.

Days later, the New York City Police released surveillance video of two persons of interest wanted in connection with the South Jamaica homicide in Queens. Both parties captured on video were believed to be teenagers.

An official motive behind the shooting was never released, but detectives had long suspected the incident was gang related.

Brown’s arrest comes two months after the Queens community gathered on the same basketball court where Griffin died to honor the 14-year-old with a tournament in the sport he loved so much: basketball.

“I made my first shot playing with Aamir,” Kamari Edey said at the summer tournament. “He was very kind, always helping me. He was just my idol.”

The southern Jamaican community has worked tirelessly to keep Griffin’s spirit alive in the nearly two years since his death, including completing a renovation of the basketball court where he died with photos of the teenager.
