Young inmates from San Luis Río Colorado record a musical single – The Voice of the Border

Youths They formed a musical group and recorded their first single during their confinement in the Institute for the Treatment and Application of Measures for Adolescents (ITAMA), a center of social reintegration for adolescents in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora.

Diana Chacón, one of the main promoters of the project, stressed the importance of providing opportunities to young people in such situations to prevent them from reoffending and achieving a better reintegration into society.

He added that although they have just released their first single, they already have two more songs recorded, which they hope to release soon.

REINSERTED GROUP

The young entrepreneur said that the teenagers with the initials JGAM, SGAL and JSAC formed the band Grupo Reinsertado after the support received at ITAMA and from society.

“They had been given guitars and a tololoche that was all beat up, not too destroyed, which they restored and so they started playing, but they had never played or sung or anything,” he said.

After seeing the initiative of the young people, ITAMA authorities requested the hiring of a music teacher to teach the children and focus their motivation.

Diana explained that she discovered them after giving them talks about entrepreneurship and self-employment at ITAMA. She explained that in these talks she brought local entrepreneurs to talk about their projects in order to influence the mood and motivation of the adolescents in the hospital.

THEY WRITE SONGS

In this regard, she indicated that the three young people wrote a song about what they heard in these courses, which moved her and motivated her to promote the project by supporting them to register their songs and record them.

“We never got permission for them to go to the recording studio, because they were under custody. But the person, Gabi Rojas from GR Promotions, said ‘I’m going, I’m taking my recording studio there,'” he explained.

In that sense, he commented that they were knocking on doors to be allowed to bring all the recording equipment into ITAMA, and after authorization they began to record the songs directly in their cells, at the same time as they recorded the music video.

“I dare say that no one had ever told them that they were capable, that they could get ahead, and that they could have talent and achieve everything they set out to do. It has been a transformation in all of them, in their conduct, in their appearance, in everything,” he said.

Finally, he explained that his first single, “El Morro,” is already available on all digital platforms, and they are about to release two other songs that they have already recorded.
