Young Gabriel’s lawyer, injured during his arrest, requests the suspension of the police

“It seems to me totally ubiquitous”, confides master Stéphane Gas when asked about the situation of the four police officers who arrested his client, Gabriel, on May 25 in Bondy (Seine-Saint-Denis). The latter, targeted by an investigation by the IGPN, the General Inspectorate of the National Police, have not been suspended.

30 days of ITT

This May 25, in the middle of the night, the 14-year-old boy had tried to steal a scooter but he was spotted by the police who arrested him. His parents picked him up a few hours later from the hospital, his face swollen. The adolescent suffers in particular froma maxillary fracture extending to the bone in the left eye and was prescribed 30 days of total interruption from work (ITT). He assures us that a police officer was relentlessly kicking him in the face. The agents, them, claim that the police officer in question tripped over the teenager on the ground.

Two complaints filed

Two complaints were filed. The first, on May 27, with the IGPN and the second, on June 2, with the Bobigny prosecutor’s office by the boy’s family. However, the police officers implicated by Gabriel are still on duty. An incomprehensible situation for Stéphane Gas. In a letter, sent this Monday, June 8, the lawyer asks the Paris police prefect, Didier Lallement, to carry out the “immediate administrative suspension” police officers implicated.

“The suspension is not a conviction or a breach of the presumption of innocence. It is simply the fact of saying that there are concrete elements which suggest that an infringement of ethics, a minimum, and a criminal offense, in my opinion, was committed by these police officers “, he explains. This suspension is essential according to him to ensure the serenity of legal proceedings.

Christophe Castaner “troubled” by the affair

This Monday afternoon, during his speech in which he promised a “zero tolerance” for racism in the police, Christophe Castaner mentioned the Gabriel affair. The Minister of the Interior said to himself “trouble” by testimonials around his arrest. Asked about BFM TV, Laurent Nunez, its Secretary of State, said: “If elements of faulty behavior were proven, we can suspend administratively … But this is not the case for the moment”.
