“Young families not in sight” – Freiburg

BZ-INTERVIEW with Regina Gensler, who wants more attention especially for mothers in the public discussion.

FREIBURG REGION. Homework, housekeeping and home office: women in particular are trying to get everything done somehow – and to reconcile the job with the family without the support of daycare centers or grandparents. Kathrin Blum spoke to Regina Gensler from the contact point for women and professionals about the unequal burden on parents in the corona crisis and traditional roles.

BZ: Especially women who suffer from closed schools and daycare centers have their say in social networks and discussion groups. It seems like it’s a woman’s problem.
Gensler: That coincides with our experience. The women are currently very stressed. They are often the ones who have to organize work, childcare, homeschooling and the leisure activities of young people and get them under one roof. Single parents are particularly hard hit – most of them are women. The expansion of emergency care was urgently needed for them.
BZ: Why is this particularly important for women?
Gensler: Even before Corona, the distribution was uneven. The model prevailing in Germany still looks like this: the man is the main earner, the woman works part-time. …
