Young dog passed around like a challenge cup: is the puppy finally lucky?

Smoke is only four months old but has already been dropped by three owners. Now he is at home in the animal shelter in Frankfurt am Main.

Frankfurt am Main – Smoke has earned the inglorious nickname “challenge cup” in just four months of his life. He was given away three times by his respective owners and hopes in the animal welfare association in Frankfurt am Main now to a permanent home.

The Presa Canario puppy was born on October 1, 2021 and is affectionately considered a little clumsy in the Frankfurt animal shelter. The animal shelter is now the fourth port of call for the puppy, but the first stable environment.

Previously, the little male, who was not allowed to grow up as a puppy, did not know a safe and stable life and was always given up either because of his impetuous playing with children or because of the owner’s illnesses.

Presa Canarios belong to the mastiff-like dogs, so they are quite heavy, large and powerful even at a very young age. The loving little bully could even weigh in at a whopping 150 pounds before it’s considered fully grown. However, Smoke’s previous owners do not seem to have considered this, which may have had a large part in the unpleasant course of his first months of life.

Since Smoke already has a lot of strength, he should only move into households with children who are at least twelve years old and who in turn already have experience with dogs. In addition, it takes a lot of free time to properly teach the baby dog how to be housebroken, how to stay alone and how to go for a walk.

Despite going through so many disappointments at such a young age, Smoke has, according to the shelter managers retains its “good character traits and is open-minded, friendly, curious, agreeable, cuddly and full of joie de vivre”.

However, since he could well develop a pronounced protective and guard instinct with advancing age, a good portion of breed experience would be desirable.
