A young Cuban resident in Miami appeared in court accused of being the main suspect of making a fraudulent claim to an insurance agency in 2022, which allowed her to earn almost $40,000.
The defendant was identified as Krystal Arbona, 24 years old, who appeared in court on Wednesday, May 1.
According to the authorities’ report, Arbona was traveling with other defendants, Isabella Méndez, another 22-year-old Cuban, and Madison Martínez, 25, when they faked a serious car accident on June 29, 2022.
An investigation by the Insurance Fraud Bureau of the Forensic Investigation Division of the Florida Department of Financial Services revealed that the incident, which allegedly occurred at the intersection of Flagler Street and 68th Avenue, never occurred.
Despite this, those involved decided to file multiple claims with the insurance agency, earning thousands of dollars.
Now, Arbona faces three counts of false insurance claims and three counts of third-degree grand theft.
This week they also appeared in court the Cubans Méndez and María Campos, accused of fabricating the incident along with the other detainees.
In total, the four defendants defrauded the insurance company Doctors Medical Group of $37,570.
According to local media America TeVéArbona stated that her friends picked her up to go out on the day of the incident.
The car in which the three were traveling stopped at a “Stop” sign at the intersection of 68th and Flagler, and a vehicle slightly hit them from behind.
The next day, the Cuban women went to a clinic located in Miami-Dade, where they signed documents stating that they had scheduled therapies that they did not attend.
The young woman admitted to having met with a therapist who showed her the rehabilitation equipment, but that she did not use it, since “she only visited the clinic once and refused to receive treatment.”
Martínez stated that he took three or four of these therapies, while Méndez claimed that he attended one or two before stopping for fear that his insurance rate would increase.
Campos was questioned by the police, and ended up admitting that, although she signed the forms for her therapies, they did not carry out all the necessary sessions.
