young Cuban shares images of her journey as a rafter – 2024-02-26 03:25:26

A young Cuban woman recently went to the social network TikTok to share images of the journey that changed her life a year ago, when she decided to venture out and risk everything by going to sea with the goal of reaching the United States.

The video images show the young woman, identified as Yeniffer Rubido, aboard a small rustic wooden boat along with other people who decided to seek a better quality of life abroad.

The video also shows in detail the boat, named ‘El Coronado’, which had an adapted engine that allowed them to make the long trip.

In the publication, Rubido points out that it had already been a year since he made the decision to go out to sea,

“Dreams are not fulfilled, they are built,” he says were his words before packing a backpack “full of dreams” and embarking on a path that changed everything.

“Today I see a year of efforts, with its bad days in which it crossed my mind to give up, but also with its good days in which I was overflowing with emotion, knowing today that all that effort has been worth it and “I’m not where I want to be but I’m not where I started either,” the young woman published along with her video, which has been viewed more than 100,000 times.

The video was filled with thousands of reactions and hundreds of comments from people who congratulated the young woman for her difficult decision, pointing out that the rafters deserved to have freedom after the dangerous journey they undertook.

“For me, the rafters are the bravest, and they deserve everything they want, not all of us have that courage”; “Congratulations and welcome to the land of freedom” and “My respects to you and all the rafters for being so brave, I came across the border, but by sea, no way crazy,” were just some of the messages left by the users of the mentioned social network.

Despite the United States’ efforts to reduce illegal migration with options such as CBP One and the Parole Humanitarian, which offers 30,000 documents monthly to people from Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua and Haiti, Cubans who do not have the opportunity to opt for the legal route They continue to take to the sea, even when they may end up adrift and without supplies..

This desperation to abandon the misery experienced in Cuba reflects the harshness of the current economic crisis that the country is facing, something that has not been seen since the so-called special period of the 90s.
