A young Cuban mother, only 22 years old, was murdered on February 26 in the province of Ciego de Ávila by her partner, a former police officer who tried to pass everything off as an accident.
According to independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, the victim was identified as Raquel Mery Arriera Álvarez, who lived in a small town between the municipalities of Guayacanes and Majagua.
The journalist indicated that the aggressor, identified as Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Vázquez, beat and tortured the woman, then placed her body on the train tracks in an attempt to simulate an accident.
The complaint indicates that the situation is not easy for the family, since his parents and sister reside in the United States. After learning of the tragedy, the woman’s mother flew to Cuba to organize the wake and funeral of her daughter. Her body was laid to rest in a closed coffin at the request of the family, as it was in a very bad state due to the attack.
Cuban influencer Niover Licea described in more detail the severity of the attack, noting that the attacker broke the woman’s hip, hitting her in the face with a board and pulling out her nails. After this, he moved her body with a wheelbarrow and placed her on the train tracks, where the vehicle eventually ended up hitting her.
Now, the victim’s family is demanding justice. In that sense, they pointed out the heartless nature of the former police officer, who after committing the murder returned home as if nothing had happened.
“That HP has to rot in jail. It was so unpleasant and cold that after he did all this, he went to bed as if he had done nothing,” declared a cousin of the deceased to the aforementioned journalist.
Relatives and friends of the young mother, who left behind two young children, took to social media to dedicate a few last words to the deceased, pointing out that she was too young and good to have received such a cruel end.
“Oh, my beautiful girl! Why did you leave, my love? You have left us with empty hearts, my little sister. I have no words, I don’t even know how to react. I only ask my God to take care of you in His Holy Glory. I love you, my beautiful little sister,” wrote Angélica Álvarez, sister of the deceased.
Until now, it is unknown if the attacker has already been arrested or if the authorities already have him in custody. Likewise, the reasons that led this person to commit such a violent murder have not yet been revealed.
