Ajax played their third league match of the season in and against Eindhoven on Saturday. The Amsterdam reserves drew their first two matches against Jong PSV (2-2) and MVV (0-0) respectively.
Early penalty
Peereboom’s team shot out of the starting blocks in Noord-Brabant. Jong Ajax were awarded a penalty in the seventh minute after Jorn Brondeel committed a foul on Jaydon Banel in his own penalty area. Rijkhoff took aim from eleven metres and beat the FC Eindhoven keeper in the left corner.
Not much happened in the Jan Louwers Stadium until the break. Both teams traded some pinpricks, but 100 percent chances failed to materialize. The half-time score in Eindhoven was 0-1.
The second half started less flashy than the first. Both teams were well-positioned defensively, which meant that chances were few and far between. After just under an hour of play, Peereboom decided to make a quadruple substitution. Precious Ugwu, Rida Chahid, Skye Vink and Faberski came on the pitch for Lucas Jetten, Jorthy Mokio, Rico Speksnijder and Don-Angelo Konadu respectively.
Rijkhoff important again
With four new names on the field, Rijkhoff doubled the lead for Jong Ajax in the 65th minute. The striker mercilessly punished a mistake in the FC Eindhoven defense and shot the 0-2 on the scoreboard.
Ten minutes before the end, Faberski increased the margin to three goals. The technically gifted winger started a rush from his own half and then shot hard into the top corner with his left foot: 0-3. This was the final act of the match, with which Jong Ajax booked their first league victory of the season.
