The study, by scientists from Imperial College London, among others, has been published in the medical journal The Lancet. The heaviest children live in the Cook Islands. A young adult there weighs an average of 25 kilos more than a peer in Ethiopia. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the islands are obese because the traditional diet has been replaced by imported, unhealthy food.
Average man and woman
Dutch young adults are the tallest. This applies to both women, with an average height of just over 1.70 meters, and men, who are on average almost 1.84 meters. A 19-year-old Dutchman is about 20 centimeters taller than a Nepalese of the same age. The smallest males of 19 years live in Southeast Asian East Timor (average 160.1 cm), the smallest women can be found in Latin American Guatemala (150.9 cm).
The study authors warn that a lack of healthy food can lead to stunted growth and an increase in childhood obesity. This is reflected in the health and well-being of a child throughout his / her life.
