Youn Sun Nah: “Killing Me Softly With His Song”: Youn Sun Nah reinterprets the classic in a unique way | Warner Music Germany

„Killing Me Softly With His Song” belongs to the Classic songs of modern music. So it means something that it Youn Sun Nah managed to put their own stamp on this song, which became famous thanks to Roberta Flack and the Fugees, among others. Accompanied only by a precious music box, the award-winning singer makes the 1971 classic composed by Charles Fox and written by Norman Gimbel completely her own. Youn Sun Nah’s unique solo rendition of “Killing Me Softly With His Song” is now available to stream/download everywhere and is accompanied by an official music video, which can be viewed below.

“I bought this music box many years ago in a small shop in Paris“, says Youn Sun Nah about the song’s unusual accompanying melody. “Since then, I have carried it with me wherever I go. When I find an interesting song, I punch holes in the sheet music and try it out. Here we are of course dealing with a very famous song. I’ve been wanting to try it for years and thought: maybe I’ll just give it a go.”

With “Killing Me Softly With His Song,” Youn Sun Nah offers the next look at her groundbreaking new album “They”that on 26 January 2024 will be released through Warner Music Arts, a division of Warner Music Group.

Youn Sun Nah has long been celebrated for her cross-stylistic interpretations of artists ranging from Tom Waits and Jimi Hendrix to Marvin Gaye and Metallica. With “They” She now brings her distinctive voice and unique perspective to a series of songs that have shaped her own difficult-to-describe musical approach and features artists such as Björk, Sarah Vaughan, Grace Jones, Roberta Flack, Edith Piaf, Grace Slick, Maria João gained fame.

“I have found that most of the songs I have recorded over the years are by male singers”, said Youn Sun Nah. “So this time I wanted to honor the singers I have long admired, the songs that move me and the voices that touch me.”

“They” was recorded earlier this year in New York City with renowned pianist Jon Cowherd (Brian Blade, Cassandra Wilson, Lizz Wright) and producer/musician Tomek Miernowski and includes a wide range of songs either written or performed by renowned artists .
