You’ll Never Guess Why The Magnificent Century Is Criticized In Turkey: Here’s The Truth

Angry fans bombarded the creators with petitions.

The series “The Magnificent Century” was released in 2011. The historical show instantly became popular, eventually turning into a real cultural phenomenon. At the same time, as it turned out, not everyone was delighted with the famous project.

So, from the first episodes, “The Magnificent Century” was subjected to serious criticism. As caring history buffs wrote, the creators of the series perverted the image of Suleiman the Great. The scriptwriters deliberately changed the character of the ruler and even parts of his biography to make it more interesting for the audience to watch. The costumes of the heroines, which were considered too frank, were also condemned.

Angry fans even wrote petitions hoping to cancel or fix the series, but to no avail. And a few years later, the country’s government even thanked the creators of the “Magnificent Century” for popularizing interest in the history of Turkey around the world.
