You won’t get the melody from the most watched video of all time out of your head

The video appeared on YouTube in 2015. The song is definitely not a profound hit, it is basically a two-minute repetition of the melody and a simple children’s dance. But simplicity celebrates success. If all the previous views from YouTube were to go on, a video of more than 30,000 years would be created.

While some love a children’s hit, others want to at least rip both ears off when listening. However, according to ratings on YouTube, it seems that most of them are hit fans. There are 22 million of them, about half of the critics.

Misunderstood dance

In any case, Baby Shark (a young shark) is not the invention of the South Korean group Pinkfong, which uploaded the video to the Internet. As the BBC server points out, a similar song appeared in children’s camps in the USA in the 1970s. Legend has it that the creation of the song was supported by the release of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws (1975).

In a somewhat crazier version, the “shark song” came to the internet in 2007. The German Kleiner Hai was an internet hit in the country, but unfortunately it was probably a little ahead of its time. At the time, the frantic clapping of his hands was considered more of a strange fad of a sick mind.

At the same time, a very similar click brought a proper package to Korean authors 13 years later. On YouTube alone, the video earned about $ 5.2 million (118 million crowns). Other – and probably much higher – amounts are collected by authors from ancillary activities. The sale of clothing is especially widespread.

Second place went to Baby Shark’s summer hit by Luis Fonsi Despacito, who rolled the charts in 2017. The Puerto Rican burner currently has about 20 million fewer views. In third place is the hit Shape Of You by British musician Ed Sheeran with a gap of two billion. Interesting fact: the first video to ever surpass a billion views on YouTube is the Korean hit Gangnam Style. That was in 2012. Today, it crouches in eighth place with less than four billion plays.

The instrument of torture

However, Baby Shark is not just an innocent baby shredder. Guards at Oklahoma Prison they misused the song to torturewhen they let at least five prisoners stand with their hands tied behind their backs and played a loud melody on their nerves for several hours.

They decided in a similar style drive the homeless out of the city center in Florida. In the city of West Palm Beach, from ten in the evening until morning, they played Baby Shark, which was supposed to discourage the homeless. And wonder of the world, it said it worked.
