Although it came to the Czech market late, the Jogger was actually the first Dacia hybrid. Was it worth the wait? At least for large families, for sure. Not many of the competitors offer seven seats in conjunction with a hybrid driver, and if they do, then at a significantly higher price. If you want, the Jogger can be surprisingly economical.
In short, this is the second time Dacia hybrid has visited the editorial garage. The previous experience with the Duster certainly gave hope that even the Jogger with this type of drive could be a great success. Technically, the cars are almost indistinguishable from each other. The Romanians arrived in the Renault warehouse and pulled out a petrol 16 in combination with an electric motor, a starter in the gearbox and a large 1.2kWh battery.
The powertrain provides a total of 104 kW, and the special feature is the automatic transmission. There are four stages for the combustion engine and two stages for the electric engine. The Jogger hybrid always starts electrically, so the traction is very smooth from the start. And since a more powerful engine is not installed in the Romanian station wagon, the car may be amazing with it.
On paper, the seven-seater test version should accelerate to 100 km/h in ten seconds and continue to 167 km/h. What is particularly pleasant is the flexible acceleration, for example on the highway, which does not cause much trouble even for a 1.5-ton Jogger. At higher speeds, the noise is louder from the wheels and the chassis is more limited.
Sometimes even the gasoline engine can roar pleasantly. The automatic transmission several times (and not only) turned it into unnecessarily high gears on the highway, which pushed wear and noise to places where you, as a driver, definitely do not want see them Duster was more refined in tuning the hybrid drive. Maybe also because it was developed as a hybrid from the start.
However, the excellent control of the Jogger hybrid is consumption, at least in the city and in the regions. Thanks to the unusually large battery of non-rechargeable hybrids, the station wagon can often only drive on electricity, even at speeds at city limits. That is also why it is not a problem for the consumption value to start with four, sometimes even three, when you drive around Prague.
As part of the test, we simulated driving to a smaller town about 40 minutes from Prague. They only drove through areas, or through towns and villages at the maximum speed limit. The on-board computer then showed an average of 3.7 l/100 km at the end of the journey. It is not so famous on the highway, the consumption there goes up well over six liters, so in the end, after a week of driving, the car claimed an average of 5.9 l / 100 km.
It is about a liter more than the car manufacturer’s data says, but it is still a reasonable value for the size of the car. However, it is worth adding that we did not drive with a full team, and perhaps both consumption and dynamics would have been at a worse level.
Apart from the driver and being the only Jogger with an automatic transmission, the hybrid version behaves just like the standard petrol or gas version. The louder sound from the wheels and chassis has already been mentioned, on the other hand, the chassis is tuned to be comfortable, but not too soft. It perfectly filters most imbalances, only a larger series of holes throws it off.
The higher ground clearance of 20 cm is pleasant, so you don’t have to worry about dirt roads or bumps at a higher speed in the city. The top of the line Extreme kit also includes a wheel slip control system for the front driven axle. However, the driving characteristics in the field will not be improved by anyone, apart from body decoration in the form of plastic lining of the lower part and details in copper color in combination with metallic gray.
With the installation of an electric motor and battery, the interior space has not changed either. In front of the knees of passengers in the second row, there is still a very average space for an adult, the plastic folding panels further limit it. It also sits a little higher. On the other hand, there is a lot of space in the third row of seats, which can be removed from the car completely. Each seat weighs around eight kilos and is nothing complicated. This will greatly increase the luggage space, which after folding and moving the second row exceeds 1800 liters. This already hides the possibility of reasonable movement.
The dashboard is ergonomically almost flawless, the automatic climate control has large round controls and the eight-inch touchscreen can be turned off completely. More so because you can easily place a mobile phone with an address in a practical holder. Unlike the Duster, the multimedia system struggles a bit with graphics and response, the reversing camera has the same low quality resolution in both cars. On the other hand, digital alarm clocks are great.
The plastics used match the price range, but they don’t look very cheap. In addition, Dacia tries to break them here and there with a soft surface, and in the doors there is a shape in piano lacquer with copper details. The seats of the Extreme equipment are covered with a combination of fabric and MicroCloud material, which, however, is very breathable and pleasant to the touch. We definitely support classic clothing printing.
A strong argument for buying a Jogger hybrid is certainly its price, as well as urban and suburban consumption. The cheapest five-seater model in the middle trim, Expression, costs 569,000 crowns. The highest tested Extreme equipment costs 600,000 kroner with five and 624,500 kroner with seven seats without miles. You’d be hard-pressed to find another seven-seat hybrid car of this size and price on the market.

In the end, you might have the Chinese Dongfeng, which sells the U-Tour MPV hybrid for 949,000 crowns. However, there are several disadvantages – with a length of 4.85 meters, the Chinese are significantly longer, although the 2.9-meter wheelbase is not so different from the Jogger. It’s a full-fledged MPV, with better equipment and a 2 + 2 + 3 seating arrangement instead of Dacia’s 2 + 3 + 2. In short, both cars target customers who are slightly in between different There are also several SUVs to choose from, but they are much more expensive and usually larger, we can also mention the plug-in hybrid version of the VW Caddy and the Ford Tourneo Connect.
It can be expected that the Jogger hybrid will get its customers because of its uniqueness, even if most people will continue to choose the gas or gasoline version. Among other things, also because of the lower price, the difference in comparable equipment is always higher than 110 thousand crowns.
