Less than a week before the second round of the election, Emmanuel Macron had entered into a serious anger, because of an official announcement… which he had not anticipated.

The last few days have not been easy for Emmanuel Macron. The outgoing president was re-elected for five years, this Sunday, April 24, 2022. But Marine Le Pen’s opponent had to face many disappointments during the week preceding the second round of the election. Absorbed by the management of the crisis linked to the war in Ukraine, the Head of State had to respond at the same time to numerous requests from the media, but also from men and women politicians wishing to obtain a post in his future government, in the event of victoire. And that’s not all. An announcement that he had not anticipated also literally knocked him out of his hinges.
“There, he really freaked out“
Le Figaro actually recounts that the incident happened on Easter Monday, April 18, 2022, barely a week before the ballot. Emmanuel Macron discovers that the Official Journal has justrecord the “extinction” of the diplomatic corps. “There, he really freaked out. He took off“, reports a visitor to the President. “It loops on its own for 10 minutes“, he adds, even revealing the scathing words of the head of state: “You’ll thank the moron who, six days into the first round, couldn’t think of anything better to do than delete this thing. This kind of bullshit drives me crazy“, would have dropped the tenant of the Elysée in front of all those he met that day.
What is the abolition of the diplomatic corps?
Subject highly criticized by political opponents of Emmanuel Macron in recent days, the abolition of the diplomatic corps is part of the more global reform of the senior civil service (with the evolution of the ENA into the National Institute of Public Service, for example). And the decree providing for the “extinguishment”, by 2023, of the two bodies of diplomats working at the Quai d’Orsay, from which a good number of ambassadors come, means that the latter will join a new body called “State administrators” and will no longer be attached to a particular administration, but will have to navigate between institutions.
