As it had announced last spring, the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) is offering an insurance contribution payment holiday for holders of a passenger vehicle (class 5) and motorcycle license. (class 6) for years 2022 and 2023.

Something promised, something due: you will only have to pay the duties, administration costs and the insurance contribution related to your demerit points – if you have any – for a grand total of $ 24 . Remember that this year, you spent $ 87.28 for your license (classes 1 to 5) if you did not accumulate any demerit point.

On the other hand, if you commit offenses by the time you receive your letter, the amount of the insurance contribution you have to pay could skyrocket: $ 162.52 if you have 4 to 6 demerit points, $ 403.95 if you have 15 or more.

Why this gift? The SAAQ has opted for the remittance of a capital surplus of more than $ 1.1 billion in the form of a payment holiday for holders of class 5 and 6 driver’s licenses.

Note that this payment holiday only applies to driver’s licenses and not to other fees to be paid each year such as registration. We salute the small victories!
