You will not believe what is happening with diesel cars in Bulgaria

The transition to electric cars in Europe continues, writes Bloomberg, quoted by money.bg.

In the first quarter of 2021, sales of all-electric and plug-in hybrid cars accounted for 15% of total registrations, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association.

And although this share is slightly below the reported in the last three months of 2020, it is twice as high as the same period last year.

In 2020, Europe overtook China as the largest market for electric vehicles.

The Old Continent is expected to maintain its leadership thanks to generous subsidies in Germany, France and Italy, as well as new proposals from Volkswagen and Stellantis.

In the first quarter of 2021, battery-powered cars in China accounted for 8% of sales.

In Europe, in the first three months of the year, sales of plug-in hybrids rose faster than those of electric cars. Their market share reached 8.1% from 3.2%, and electric vehicles grew from 4.2% last year to 6.6% now.

The first position among the manufacturers is for Volkswagen, which plans to overtake Tesla in sales by 2025.

Sales of cars with internal combustion engines continue to fall on the Old Continent, and the biggest loser is diesel. However, it should be noted that they are still responsible for 65% of the market.

From January to March 2021, sales of diesel cars fell by 20.1% to 594 thousand and held 23.2% market share, compared to 29.9% a year earlier.

Gasoline fell by 16.9% to 1.1 million sales. The market share of gasoline was 42.2% in the first quarter of 2021, compared to 52.3% in the same period last year.

In Bulgaria, sales of diesel cars also decreased – by 17.4% to 1,931 units. Gasoline has a slight increase from 3.8% to 2,971. Hybrid vehicles enjoy 1.8% higher interest up to 510 units, and plug-in hybrids grow by 25.4% to 79.

Pure electric vehicles fell from 24.5% to 111, which can be partly explained by the small market and its dependence on corporate purchases.
