The MediaTek Dimensity 800U processor was officially presented as a more powerful version of the popular Dimensity 800. The system was made in an energy-saving 7 nm process and has a chance to be found in many new smartphones – for example Xiaomi mediums.
MediaTek processors stop being censored after concerns about their energy efficiency and rare updates. Recently, MTK chips have shown very good performance, often approaching the flagship Qualcomm chips.
A new chip for middle-class kids
Presented today Dimensity 800U this is a great opportunity for mid-range smartphones – the system is energy-efficient enough and has overclocked cores, so it’s only a matter of time before we find it in new OPPO or Xiaomi smartphones.
The system was composed of an eight-core processor with two units Cortex-A76 with clock speeds overclocked to 2.4 GHz and six Cortex-A55 with 2 GHz clock. The second cores are to guarantee better energy efficiency, while the first ones ensure the speed of operations.
The Mali-G57 MC3 chip takes care of the graphics display, while the supported memory is LPDDR4x RAM (up to 12 GB) and UFS 2.2 data memory. Dimensity 800U supports 5G for two cards (Dual SIM).
Another advantage of the layout is its implementation in 7 nm lithographic process (TSMC), which guarantees low energy demand – in the medium range it will be additionally important, because usually we find the largest batteries there and a long working time on a single charge.
The icing on the cake Dimensity 800U is the support for screens refreshed at a high frequency of 120 Hz and support for 64 MP cameras with recording in 4K resolution at 30 frames per second.
