You were looking for it, and here it is: DreamWorks Animation is reaching its “tomorrow”

Exceptional image

I often think that your opinion of a movie like “The Croods: A New Age” depends on the moment and the situation; even what we can do on our part, either to make ourselves like or not to like it. In short, that it is very subjective or influential, more than usual and that it depends more on us than on the film itself.

A movie, in this case also a sequel which for practical reasons I guess we can say is more or less the same as the first one, more or less the same as usual in animated cinema from companies like DreamWorks Animation. More or less the same, although this second installment left him with a better taste in his mouth than he remembers the first.

More or less, that moreover as if it were the same thing. Of course, as I confessed in a filtered WhatsApp conversation, my predisposition towards the former was not the same as towards the latter. It’s raining in wet and from DreamWorks Animation I no longer expect what I found with the sequel to “The Croods”, and that’s also what I found in the sequel to “Trolls”.

Knowing what we are doing, it is not necessary to be ambitious… more than fair and necessary: as “Trolls 2 – World Tour” was already in relation with “Trolls”, this sequel to “The Croods” is the repeat offender. therefore. it becomes strong in what made the first one now have a sequel, which we did not miss but which does not hurt either: Its diabolical and above all colorful sense of rhythm.

Or when the image is worth more than the thousand words one could use to criticize what is still questionable. The two sequels released this year seem to confirm that DreamWorks Animation has finally found the “next day” it has been looking for for 20 years, one that, like the Croods, is not what they thought and is not happening. trying to keep up with Pixar.

DreamWorks establishes itself, settles and strengthens itself as the ‘best’ version of Blue Sky, delivering with ‘The Croods: A New Era’ a light and superficial (new) pleasure, as visually pleasing and energetic as it is unimaginative and relevant. in the field. An animated film, always “animated” whose obvious vital enthusiasm can generate astonishment but rarely surprise.

And as long as it lasts, it lasted. Referring to this WhatsApp conversation, it’s not like Barcelona are going without Messi and Iniesta to play like he’s Espaol, but it’s this Espaol that’s now sweeping 2 because in reality it doesn’t was neither Barcelona nor ever had Messi or Iniesta leave on the bench. They wanted to sell it to us and we wanted to buy it.

There is no reason to think that “The Croods: A New Era” won’t appeal to those who loved “The Croods” and simply expect more, not necessarily more and better. Like the sequel to ‘Trolls’ compared to ‘Trolls’ itself, a good option for a very distracted time, especially with the family… and / or in a movie theater, where its visual power certainly shines “much better”.
