You turn on Spotify, and there’s “What’s the tune.” One note, please…

Music, podcasts and… games. Spotify made a surprising purchase but in the most positive way possible.

Simple games are becoming more and more popular

Do you remember Wordle? A simple word game released last October. Josh Wardle, a former Reddit software engineer, is responsible for production. Available for free, the game involves guessing five-letter words in just six tries – the game was incredibly loud for a while, Twitter was full of colorful squares and The New York Times decided to buy it.

The sister game is Heardle, which involves guessing a given song, for which the player (just like in Wordle) has six tries – first they must do so according to the opening notes, then receive more and more guesses. clues that make it easier to understand the puzzle. The simple game is a bit reminiscent of the Jaka to tune program format, which we’re all very familiar with – Heardle lets you guess songs “by a note”. It’s this game that Spotify picked up, which is undoubtedly an intriguing occurrence.

Jeremy Erlich, Spotify’s Global Music Director, commented on the Heardle acquisition:

We’re always looking for innovative and fun ways to discover more music and help artists reach new fans. Heardle has proven to be a really fun way to connect millions of fans with the songs they know and love, new songs, and a way to compete with friends for who has the best musical knowledge.

It’s not the biggest takeover in the company’s history, but we’ll definitely hear about it

For now, despite the takeover, Heardle will remain a separate site – however, when a given song is revealed, the game will link the song on Spotify (previously it was Soundcloud). The Swedish company openly states that it plans to connect Heardle to its app soon, which will allow users to play comfortably, also with friends.

Although Spotify consistently lags its competitors in terms of audio quality, it’s the throne of streaming services for a reason – and one of the main reasons is its ongoing community attention in the form of mixes, playlists user-created readings and detailed annual summaries. Now it’s time to play Jaka to the melody – and you have to admit, it’s spot on.
