“Hello Kolya, if you remember, I told you Russians about you stealing suitcases and foreign territory. And unfortunately it is true,” says Zdeněk Svěrák in a video he published on his Facebook page on March 1. During that time, the spot, which contains scenes from the Oscar-winning film Kolya and real footage from the Russian invasion of Ukraine, has over 100,000 views.

Vise writes a letter to Kolya alerting him that the Russians are shooting at peaceful cities and driving people out of their homes. “Now a boy like you is standing outside our door, he came from Ukraine this morning only with his mother. Can we leave them there?” he asks.

The clip was created in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior at support for Ukrainianswho lost their homes.

The film Kolja by director Jan Svěrák from 1996, for which his father wrote the screenplay, won an Oscar for the best foreign language film and was screened in 40 countries around the world.
