Information has come out about the new iMac that will be released early next year.
Later this year, already in November according to current expectations, Apple will release a MacBook with the ARM processor. The expectation is of course that the American tech company will slowly phase out the regular Intel chips. And that means that the other Macs also go on the ARM processor.
In that context, there is news to report from today China Times. This source claims that the ARM processor will come to the new iMac in the first half of 2021. The iMac would get the A14T chip. As the name suggests, the chipset is related to the current chips that Apple uses in the company’s mobile devices.
A complete farewell to Intel at the end of this year or early 2021 is probably not going to happen. Chances are that Apple sell both constructions side by side to get rid of stocks. Ultimately, the ARM construction is the only one left and that is the new standard within Apple. And that means the end of an era. This also takes some getting used to for developers, because for the ARM processors they have to redesign applications and programs that are currently focused on Intel technology.
