– You need an extra wool sweater – VG

BRR: It was a cold morning in several places in southern Norway on Thursday.

On Thursday, several Norwegians woke up to unusually cool temperatures in several places in southern Norway. This is due to northerly winds and – ironically – cloudless skies, explains meteorologist Pernille Borander.

– In the mountains, it can quickly be below freezing in summer. That has been the case throughout the summer as well. Those who climb 2,000-metre peaks have probably experienced a bit of everything and snow on the ground for periods during the summer, says Borander, who is the meteorologist on duty at the Meteorological Institute to VG.

What is, however, a little less normal is that it was cold at much lower altitudes.

– Today’s morning temperatures were relatively cool down in the lowlands as well. In Aurskog – not far from Oslo – the lowest temperature was 4.7, says the meteorologist.

According to Borander, the same applied to several places in southern Norway.

It is connected with the north wind. A cool wind comes from the north at the same time as the weather is clear. The clouds act as a quilt for the earth. If you don’t have the duvet in place, most of the heat disappears into the atmosphere, she says and adds:

– Then you need an extra wool sweater in the morning.

The lack of the same clouds that make the morning cold also gives the sun the opportunity to do what they do best throughout the day: Shine.

According to Borander, large parts of the country can expect good weather ahead, especially towards the weekend.

– It will be quite a nice summer day in the whole of southern Norway, including western Norway. They have had many gray and wet days during July. Today we can say that Western Norway will also have a lovely summer, she says.

– In the North, it has simply been a soaking wet day. The wettest place is the Lenangsstraumen in Troms, which had 78.2 mm of rain from yesterday at 05.00 until today at 05.00. It has rained, cats, dogs, horses and whatnot, says the meteorologist.

But in the north there is also hope, explains the meteorologist.

– Now the sunny weather is also coming to Northern Norway! There is a high pressure that spreads over the whole country. There will be a few days of dry summer weather and sun. Especially on Saturday, there can be nice summer temperatures in the whole of Northern Norway as well, concludes Borander and adds that the weekend’s “weather winner” will be Trøndelag.

– On Saturday, Trøndelag can get 26.27 degrees, she says.
