Macron to Putin: You lie to yourself
French President Emmanuel Macron struck back at Putin in the 90-minute telephone conversation on Thursday.
– You’re lying to yourself. It will cost your country dearly, your country will end up isolated, weakened and under sanctions for a very long time, Macron is said to have said according to his adviser.
Putin said, among other things, that they would continue uncompromisingly in the attack on Ukraine. He is also said to have reiterated that he wants to “de-Nazify” the country.
“There was nothing in what President Putin said that could calm us down,” the adviser said.
After the conversation, Macron said that he thinks the worst is yet to come, the French presidential office states. Macron thinks Putin plans to take control of the whole of Ukraine.
